Sagamore Hills has partnered with Compost Now an Atlanta based company to create a zero waste community. Students,teachers, parents, and community stakeholders have all teamed up to make Sagamore a green place to live and learn. Students have taken a leadership role inpart with school staff to:
- Divert waste from landfills.
- Reduce waste and litter on campus
- Improve waste-management practices among students’ families and the community
- Students take on leadership roles in and around school
- Students from Sagamore Hills have convinced the district’s superintendent to replace styrofoam trays in the cafeteria with reusable ones
- The program (and school gardens) provides hands-on learning opportunities in STEM/STEAM subjects: science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
